SERVICE LEARNING
Learning By Doing

Why do I choose Service Learning Projects to be the final in my classes? Because there are so many benefits to students! For my own benefit, I get the joy of reviewing them. I love it because students put so much hard work and creativity into their projects.

Students get to apply classroom knowledge to real life. You'll gain practical experience that can help explore or confirm possible career paths while earning documented work experience. I encourage you to mention your service learning experiences for scholarship applications, transfer applications, professional portfolios, or resumes. Through personal engagement, you also become more aware of the world around you and become civically engaged as you discover the value and power of your own voice. Former students have told me they loved doing the project. Many of them have even landed job opportunities and internships, and have expanded their professional networks. Workforce Skills in the Classroom

What are employers looking for? I created this video for other departments in the college to consider making it clear to students what skills will be learned in the classroom. More importantly, what skills can we teach that employers are looking for.

For my class, students will create digital content for a non-profit organization as the final project. These are samples of service learning projects submitted by my former students. Hopefully these will inspire you to use your creativity and receive the joy of giving back!
